The Help viewer has encountered unexpected errors cannot continue

This i sthe error message, when i click ? help in all the ms office applications. Other things are working perfectly or I think so. This is the error , after i allowed windows updates, about 36 to my computer on microsoft office 2007 files, which included help updates and security and general package updates .After these updates, the computer gone in to configuring mode when started and finished. But when i click the ? help file, which is important for users could not be assessed. I have tried repairing of ms office at control panel, uninstall and reinstall , renaming help file in the program data/microsoft office etc. but this could not be solved. i want to know, whether i could download the ms office help files separately as separate downloads, so that i could atleast access these help features. Any help would be very much helpful.
I could not find which updates have done this to the computer. Please help

I expected a reply from this wonderful forum, but no reply came. It is some what resolved, when i thought myself, going to event viewer and then guessed, i mean guessed, that it might be something to do with the help on line used by microsoft for online help on microsoft office pack. I suddenly tried to log in to internet explorer and set the internet explorer to default, by going to the options, menu and in the advanced tab, set to default. Then having done that, i again tried the help in excel and word, it worked. Members of this forum may take a clue from my answer. This is the only solution. now i have enabled all updates and they are working fine

YES, Internet Explorer is necessary to get MS Updates. However, it is not required to be the default browser.

A rule of the thumb I use on my computers.
I always have I.E. to it's default settings.
I always have I.E. selected as my default browser.

Anything Microsoft; programs, updates ect likes, wants, loves I.E.
Any Fixit tools KB XXXXX or what ever will want I.E.
Anything you download from Microsoft will want I.E.

I still use Firefox for 99% of my normal browser use.
Whether I, you or the fence post likes I.E. doesn't mater. Microsoft and it's product want and need I.E.

Hi, I merely inform that my problem, Help encountered an unexpected problem. cannot continue" has been fixed with default settings of Internet Explorer. I do not know, how it fixed. This is the fix that has worked for me. Thank you all. I also use firefox for my main browsing activities. But, internet explorer is the software by microsoft and default settings has really helped fix this problem.

Glad to hear your fixed jraju. Default setting do nice things Windows when their is a problem.

Firefox and Chrome and others are add on browsers.
Internet Explored is a part of Windows 7 not a add on. It is needed and should be kept updated using Windows Updates.

    Happy computing.

Hi, I understand what you say. I have enabled windows updates and had done all the updates. but i fail to know , why experienced engineers have not a idea about the problem, and instead taking their own time to reply and replying with links which have many solutions. If you do anything, that you do not know, like registry fix then you are totally confused, if any unwanted registry entries are kept and wanted registry entries deleted, then you have to format your computer. Windows updates are secured features, but it also has bugs, which they seldom attend. First, every software is being released as beta, and then on the suggestion of users, developers correct the things and the final product is out. Ofcouse, suggestions for improvement are taken care in the next software update. But by fluke, i had a thought, that i would go to the event viewer and found that it is a problem with some vulnerability in the internet explorer, with the error id.1904. I have clicked on excel file and simultaneously saw the event viewer if any event id is created, and then clicked on the event id for online help. It gets to this link
MS05-026: A vulnerability in HTML Help could allow remote code execution . I found , it may be a vulnerability in IE and hence, i thought some reset of ie could be attempted. That it worked for me. But, did you know that in a tech. meeting updates, this vulnerability have been mentioned only i.e 8 , but I am using internet explorer 10 with updates. I will get the link in my next post for this . I have even seen that some problem has been solved with their advice to roll back to IE 9. If windows finds something, i think hawkers are also finding ways. Thanking you. I am posting questions, because, i get instant replies to my queries, but not to this one.

    Excel Help Viewer_Unexpected error

    Surprise Surprise.
I followed the advice above [having recently re-Loaded and subsequently finding that found that the EXCEL Help (only this one) did not work]

To my REAL surprise, after I had (ONLY) opened Internet Explorer, NOT set it to be the DEFAULT, and NOT left it open, the Excel Help files sprang into Life

Why oh WHY do we have to go to these lengths just to run a Spreadsheet ?
