There is a possibility I might have to start using Office 365 at work so I need to "prepare for the worst" !! although Office 2010 is staying on MY machine for as long as possible.

(Supplementary question -- Does Office 365 have all the language packs that Office 2010 for example has).

I'm an Office 365 University subscriber. Office 365 and Office 2013 are the same software. The difference is in licensing. Office 365 is subscription based aimed at consumers and small businesses while Office 2013 is volume licensed for large corporations and universities. I think universities can also get the "Office 365 Education" subscription instead of the volume license. The good thing about 365 is the integration with other MS acquired products like Skydrive and free 60 minutes of Skype calls per month. In addition, once Office 2016 arrives, people who are subscribed can get the latest Office as long as their subscription hasn't expired yet. "Office 365 doesn't come with language packs like you install with Office 2013" (not 100% sure about the quoted text) since when I want to change the language, I have to go to my Office.com account and download another office setup with a different language, but I have to change my default language on my account to the language I want.

In sum, Office 365 gets the complete "horrible" white blinding UI that Office 2013 has. I'm fine with the ligh

gray theme though.
Regards

I said the same thing only not in so many words

Office 2010 --Much better -- you can also set themes and backgrounds different from that hideous White colour in Office 2013.

For instance I prefer something like this (EXCEL 2010) 1st screenshot - compared with EXCEL 2013 second screenshot

Yep, that's exactly my problem. I'd happily downgrade to Office 2010, but it isn't possible as far as I know.

I downgraded no problem. Just installed 2010 over the top of 2013 & it was all simply done. Just left 2013 installed as well & it worked no problem.

I found a partial solution to the "blinded by the white" office 2013 theme. If you change the Window color in advanced appearance settings the white can be toned down in the work area.

Hi all,

The strangest thing is that if you go to the Microsoft page about this it shows Office 2013 with a lovely pale blue theme while instructing how to change it to lifeless grey:

Change the Office theme - Outlook - Office.com

Change the Office theme

If you feel like the Office color scheme is too bright or you need more contrast, you can change the Office theme for all your Office programs from your account settings.
  • Click File > Office Account (or File > Account).
  • Choose an Office Theme from the list.

White provides a clean, new look by applying a white color to the window title bar, the Navigation Pane, and the header for Outlook email messages. In some other Office programs, you'll see white document and slide backgrounds, column headers, and Office app backgrounds.

GIVE US WHAT WE CAN SEE HERE PLEASE MICROSOFT !!!! It will make a lot of people very happy

So, with so many people dis-satisfied with the UI of 2013 and Office 365, do you think that Microsoft will at the least bring back the themes from 2007? I really love the black theme in 2007.
