Unable to open files that I created & saved in Word starter 2010

Problem started "mid September I believe".

I purchased my laptop few years back, Never had any problems opening my docs. Thought i solved this with system restore to earlier date. this worked and i was able to open those files. I now no longer can use system restore because it wont go back to an early enough date. not sure but i think problem came from automatic up-date. I am a computer idiot. If someone out there could give me a step by step way to solve this I would be a more enlightened computer user who is happy once again!

Try the following. Open Control Panel, select Programs & Features, scroll down to where Word is & right click on it & select Repair, don't select uninstall or it will get removed from your computer.

This is from an article I found concerning this in Computer World, which you can read which gives the above as a possible repair.

    Thank you for your assistance.

I open my files a couple of ways. from start I double click on word starter if it is a recent file. If I go through my documents I do the same procedure with a double click. Now all my files have turned orange. I now open those with a right click & open with MS client virtualization handler. I think I set this as my default but unsure because when I would come back to open a file it would not let me open it with a double click, I had to fall back to right clicking & use virtualization handler. this no longer works, however... thus, the reason for my post.

Do you have a back up copy of the Word Starter, either on a disc or flash drive. If you do you could uninstall the program & reinstall it. If you try this make sure you have any activation code that may be required.
This would probably overcome the problem.
Have you tried contacting Microsoft about the problem. You may be able to download a new copy & install that. As far as I know Starter Packs for Office are no longer available, but Microsoft may be able to help you.

I would suggest going to control panel, programs and features. Find Office 2010 Starter in the list, click on it, then choose "change". From here it should try and repair the install and get it up and working again.
