If you do decide to do a reinstall, we should do a proper clean up that drive first. Let us know.
Jeez what a mess - well that's not a good start - I already did a reinstall of Office and that didn't fix it - but MS Word is now working - the only remaining error is the printer issue - I believe this \Windows\System32\spool\drivers\x64\3\CNMUIA2.DLL. obviously refers to a driver - and the bad HD cluster that was replaced is now causing the printer area - I have to say that the last CHKDSK reads much cleaner than previous entries - so (maybe an eternal optimist) I think good progress has been made.

Thanks heaps for the input and suggestions Golden

No worries. Keep us informed, we'll sort it one way or the other.

Out of interest, how old is this hard disk?

Hi Golden,

The HD is about 4 years old.

Now the issue has well and truly swung over to problems getting anything printed to my Cannon Pixma MP640 - either from my Desktop or my wireless Notebook.
DESK TOP POINTS:
* The Printer was initially shown in Devices and Printers but not set as default and didn't present a right click option to make it the default.
* Troubleshoot has an ! next to it - says the driver is not installed.
* Taskbar says new driver being installed - but troubleshooter says unable to fix and CannonMP640 doesn't have a driver - though taskbar says driver installed.
* Tried downloading and installing new driver.
* Tried resetting spool.
* Tried finding printer (not listed) in MS Word - receive Active Directory Domain Services is currently unavailable.
* Hardware - properties - driver - update driver - says best driver already installed!

NOW THE LAPTOP
Attempted printing - PixmaMP640 is turned on - but print from MS Word on Laptop says printer if offline.

Have tried re-installing printer software on Desktop.

Uninstall the printer drivers as you normal would, then do a clean up using this:
Drivers - Clean Left over Files after Uninstalling

Now reinstall the printer again.

For the HDD, install CrystalDiskInfo and run it - upload a screencapture image once it analyses the health of your HDD.

OK finally got rid of that useless MP640 in Printers and Devices and I believe I've removed all the drivers via normal method - via Printers and Devices..etc

Not confident enough to use that clean up tool - worries I might remove other stuff

Can you advise what I need to look fo to clean up and delete printer driver wise?

OH - and one last point - after reading the notes - would consider it essential to run that it safe mode?

IGNORE ALL ABOVE - EURECA - FIXED!! - It was the complete uninstallation of the drivers and needed to remove the MP640 from printers and devices, combined with a full uninstallation of ALL software components - and full reinstallation that resulted in a comlete and proper installation of software and drivers - so all good.

Thanks again for your assistance and ideas Golden!
