Is Office 97 Shortcut bar a security risk?

I know what the title of this thread might make me look like, and no, I'm not some crazy anti-technology cave dweller with an ax to grind against Microsoft. I use Windows 7 and Office 2010. However, I really like the Office 97 shortcut bar, am amazed it works with Windows 7, and really, why didn't that feature (AND the website building in word and publisher!) make it into later versions?
So, I dug out my old copy of office 97. And not only can it give shortcuts to everything from templates to settings, documents, programs, and even help, but it works with Office 2010, so I can pin my programs and documents from office 2010 to it. I also use office 97, but only for it's web and visual basic functionality (seriously Microsoft, do you really think people don't care about this just because it's related to coding?).
My question is, is this a security risk? And if so, how big, might it be worth the risk as long as I don't go to Russian porn or free iPad sites? I have SR2b.
