Excel 2010 continues to put macros in old user profile XLSTART

I am rebuilding my Win 7 in a new user profile and am now trying to get my macros into the new user profile XLSTART. Every time I create a test macro to see were Excel will place it, it ends up in the old user profile XLSTART. (My old user profile was corrupted by disk problems that have been fixed by CHKDSK. It became unusable and I was unable to log back into it. I am keeping it around because it may have some useful data files.)

I have tried using the File – Options – Trust Center – Trust Center Settings where a list of user locations specifies trusted locations for Excel. I would have thought that specifying the XLSTART here would fix the problem. Alas, a new personal.xls gets created in the old user profile location.

Would anyone know how I could get Excel to begin using the XLSTART in my new user profile? Any help here will be greatly appreciated.

I can use Excel pretty well and I do use a couple of macros---but I'm pretty shaky on profiles, trusted locations, etc.

Here is what I get. The clip below shows where Excel 2010 finds the Personal.xlsb file, in the old profile (wgra).



Below are the Trusted Locations with the new profile (wgr) path to XLSTART that I set up and is ignored by Excel.





Interestingly, the images I made with the Snipping tool were automatically saved in the old profile - wgra. This shows I still have a lot of work fixing the default file locations of my new profile, wgr.

It's good that you don't have my problems. Your profile is quite sound and usable.

For what it's worth, I have no .xlsb files anywhere in my PC. I'd never even heard of them, but just did a disk search and found none. Supposedly a "binary" file. Means nothing to me.

I use only 1 profile.

Thank you very much for responding, Ranger. I have tried some of your suggestions with no success. My new user profile seems to have many links back to the old profile and I'm hoping that someone knows of locations where these links are made so that I can change the file locations to the new profile.

Some of the things I've tried were to rename XLSTART in the old profile to XLSTARTa and Excel 2010 doesn't find it. I have an XLSTART in the new user ROAMING directory but it completely ignores it. For example, when I try to customize the ribbon by adding a macro, the customization screen returns a blank list of where the macros are supposed to be instead of the list of macros that are in the PERSONAL workbook. As it stands, the only way I can get this Excel to use macros is by having an XLSTART in the old profile. This jumble must have happened happened when I did a restore of my files from my online backup service.

It seems like this would be an easy problem to fix but it's quite exasperating. My day job doesn't give me the luxury of time to explore the intricacies of Win 7 and Office 2010. Unless I find a relatively straightforward fix to this I will go about building a brand new profile and move my many customization's over one by one.

I did reread your post and the point you made about libraries was very helpful.

After reading more about libraries and the tutorials here, I found that they were using folders from the old profile. After fixing that, my default saves of the programs I tried went to the new profile. My macros, though, continue to come and go from the old profile.
