What version of Excel are you using. I am using Excel 2013 which is part of Office 2013 Pro. If you are using Excel 2013 you can insert pictures by selecting the Insert tab on the menu Ribbon & selecting Pictures & follow the directions from there.
Other versions of Excel have a similar function for inserting pictures. Experiment with a blank worksheet first until you get the system to work for you.

By default, inserting images in Excel does not anchor them to a cell. They float.

If that is all you need, then simply follow Ranger4's advice. If however, you want the image tied to a specific cell, read on..

There are two ways to add images to a cell in excel.

    1. Insert image in a comment box. When you mouse over the cell the picture will show.
    2. Anchor the image to the cell using a hyperlink.

    For the first way...

    • Right-click on the cell and insert a comment.
    • Right click on the border of the comment.
    • Select Format Comment
    • Select the colors and lines tab
    • On the color dropdown select fill effect
    • Select the Picture tab
    • Navigate to your picture and click Ok.

    For the second way...

    • Assuming you have the picture inserted already..
    • You have to name the cell first (Right click, define name).
    • Right click the picture
    • Click on Hyper link
    • Select place in this document
    • Locate the name you just defined and select it
    • Click Ok.
    • The picture is now anchored to that cell.

You may need to adjust the cell or image dimensions to match the cell/image size

Ranger4, inserting an image would be easy but having it conform to a cell and move with the rest of the data is harder.

What about linking to the image file? Can Excell link to files?

I have Office version 2007, I'm so far behind because most companies in this country either work with Office 200 or 2007

    Have you tried TantaC's suggestions.

Also you could refer to this MS website & under "Insert Pictures from a File" there are methods of linking a picture in Excel 2007.

Sorry for the late answer. TanyaC, thank you for the detailed answer with the required steps. I thought I could hyperlink to an image outside the document as well
