    Outlook 2003 Issues

I Installed Office 2003 SP3 on my new Windows 7 x64 last week and it seemed to initially run ok.

Over the last few days I've had a problem with Outlook where it hangs, seemingly at random. I can't figure out what causes it and it doesn't always happen from the same function. It hangs indefinitely until I force it to close and re-open it.

I've tried uninstalling the Windows updates and re-installing the entire package with the same problem.

It doesn't generate any specific error message so I'm not sure what to try next.

Any ideas? Anyone else having this problem?

So I figured out a reliable way to make it crash, although this isn't the only reason that it crashes.

If I'm in the Calendar view (Month, Week, doesn't seem to matter) and use the scroll wheel on my mouse, it will die every time. However, if I'm viewing an email and use the wheel to scroll in the reading pane, it's just fine.

I don't know if that helps, but I thought I should mention it.

    Any ideas anyone?

This doesn't really help you, but I have Outlook 2003 (w/SP3) installed in Win7 X64 Home Premium.

In Calendar view, the mouse wheel does not crash the program for me.

Anything in Event Viewer about your problem? (Graphics drivers, maybe?)

I don't see anything in Event Viewer. I tried disabling my anti-virus but that wasn't it either.

It's not only the wheel mouse that makes it crash, sometimes it seems to happen even when I'm not using it and it's sitting down in the system tray.

Everything else about Windows 7 is working for me except this one issue.

It seems like there must be error logs somewhere? Until I get more info about what it's problem is it's going to be hard to diagnose.

Well, I don't know if anybody else is having this problem, but I think I found a solution for myself and wanted to post it.

For me, going to Control Panel and using the Troubleshooting option to set it up so that Outlook runs with XP SP3 compatibility settings did the trick.

    Cheers,

I've also been having frequent Outlook 2003 crashes under Windows 7. I tried unning Outlook in compatibility mode = Win XP SP3, run as administrator but that didn't help. The problem appears to have gone away since I disabled the Google Desktop Search Addin.

FYI, the error log was saying:
Faulting application name: OUTLOOK.EXE, version: 11.0.8312.0, time stamp: 0x4a403990

    Hello Welcome to SF,

I guess you found your issue. The add-in is causing conflict when you disable it works good. My suggestion would be don't re-enable it. If oyu really want to enable it then try to disable all the add-ins expect google then see whether it works. If it works then enable each add-in one by one see when add-in has issues with Google add-ins. If still crashes then try to reinstall the Google see whether that makes any difference.

    Hope this helps,
    Captain

I am having similar issues with Outlook. I will be in the middle of typing a new message and an error occurs which forces Outlook to close and I lose everything. I checked your fix and I have NO addins to delete. Is this a new issue?

    H'key.

    outlook hanging, permissions, add-ins

one more to join the crew of this thread.

for me outlook crashes when i leave the computer unattended for overnights or some other lengthy period, or sometimes on copy operations from one .pst to another.

    i have:
    outlook permissions add-in - C:\Program Files (x86)\Tour de Force\Tour de Force (Client)
cg msg class modifier - C:\Program Files (x86)\ContactGenie\CG-MCM

    running;

+ the key application that makes outlook useful, lookout, that microsoft bought and incorporated to later versions of outlook.

i've been kind of suspecting some file permissions issue, but have not been able to pin it down.

    Outlook 2003 and Windows 7

    All,

I had a lot of problems with Outlook 2003 and Windows 7 Home Premium (32-bit). Specifically, I had failures in D3D10Warp.dll. Some reading online indicated that my problems might go away if I uninstalled IE9.

They did. I also went into the update manager to mark IE9 as an unwanted update so that it would not reappear.
