Visual basic and MS Excel
How much more would I be able to do in Excel if I knew Visual Basic

VBA opens up a whole new world . Google "VBA Excel ebooks" and don't dismiss the dummies guide, very good for beginners, can free d/l
Just a completely obscure piece of rhetoric as I pass by..
Microsoft Excel is an extremely powerful set of tools, even without VB. It's amazing how many people turn to VB to do things that Excel can do natively.. Only twice have I ever had to resort to using VBA in an excel workbook, and some of my "programs" are pretty complicated.
But that's not to diminish the power of VB in Excel. PalBus is right, there is a lot more you can do with VBA.
VB does have a hit on your system though. Some advice - always see if there is a way to do it natively in Excel before you resort to writing VB scripts.
Good luck.
TanyaC, I agree with you that Excel is very powerful but flexible at the same time. I personally am amazed that a big software like Excel can operate on our machines ( as opposed to requiring a mini computer and a workstation). Whenever I thought that "no that's too complex for Excel" then I searched online, I would usually find a way to do it in Excel.
