phantom contacts in Outlook 2007

An important contact does not show up in the list of contacts in Outlook 2007. There is only one contact list. If I export that list, the contact does not appear in the resulting Excel file either.

But if I type the first two letters of the contact's name at the TO: prompt, the contact appears. The data is there, but where?

I need to be able to trust the export feature. Any ideas? Thanks.

I'm no expert on Outlook 2007 and only use Outlook 2010 at work. I don't have it on my home machine.

If you want to take a look at and edit the list of auto-complete email address stored try:

NK2Edit: Edit AutoComplete files (.NK2) of Microsoft Outlook

The data is stored in that list and it's not the same as where your contacts are saved. (As far as I know).
