    Show mini toolbar on selection

    Hi all,

    I'm using Excel 2010 on Win 7. In Options > General, there is a check box named "Show mini toolbar on selection". What happens if I uncheck that please?

    Turns off that cute and handy little formatting bar.

    OK. I cleared that check box but still when I right click on a cell or press F2 to edit a text cell and right click, in both cases the mini toolbar again appears! Why?

    The website that soho1 in Post #2 has a method of removing the "Mini Tool bar", but you need to do it for each cell you are working on. I have checked it in Excel 2013 & it certainly works.

    The quote from the website, where it shows a target & arrow, is just below the spreadsheet image.

    "Press Esc at any time to remove the mini toolbar and shortcut menu. If you have already made a selection from the mini toolbar, move the mouse pointer away from the mini toolbar or select another cell to make it disappear."

    @Ranger4:
    Thanks for the response.

    There is a small misunderstanding!
    Look, at the beginning of the thread I said that subject, that, in Options > General, there is a check box named "Show mini toolbar on selection". I'm talking about this.

    Anyway, even if I select a target cell and uncheck that option (from the above path) for it, still when I edit that cell the mini toolbar appears when right clicking on it!

    Let me ask the problem as simple as possible:
    What is the difference when that option is checked and when that is not checked, in effect? Or what should happen we we uncheck that option?

    I have tried to stop the Mini Toolbar from showing on right click in Excel 2013, but even with all the option unchecked it still shows, even with a new spreadsheet.
    So it does seem that you are correct, so the only work around seems to be to use the "Esc" key to temporarily remove it for each cell you are working on.
    Perhaps it's a bug in Excel, but I can't offer any more help. Perhaps someone else may have a solution.

    So, I believe the recap is, you cannot turn it off of the right-click, as it appears to float over the menu, however, it DOES turn off when selecting cell contents (left to right or right to left or double click) and should stay persistent in behavior each time you open excel, which can be verified when the checkbox remains OFF in File > Options > General tab.
