    Office 2013 Performance

I'm not sure if this is the best place to post this query.

I recently upgraded from 2003 to 2013 and I'm having some problems with the performance of 2013.
I'm not saying the only problem is with Outlook I'm just not mentioning the other modules because I haven't used them all that much.

Outlook - Scrolling with a wheel mouse through emails causes one of the columns 'to, date, whatever' to scroll fast but everything to the right of the left-most column has to catch up. Literally 1/8" is scrolling quickly.

I switch to Outlook and maybe 20% of the window is seen. The rest is greyed out. If I tab it will refresh the window and i'll be able to see it.
If I'm typing in an email the window will stop recording the keystrokes...then it will catch up and there is the sentence I just type out.

All problems seem to be related to graphics. It's like being a slow web connection or having a slow processor that cannot keep up w/graphics. AMD powerXpress has Outlook @ high performance; rather than energy saving.

I do not appear to be taxing my system at all. Everything is snappy and quick.

That was a huge upgrade, from 2003 A lot of new requirements for 2013. Regarding graphics:
"Graphics hardware acceleration requires a DirectX10 graphics card and a 1024 x 576 or higher resolution monitor"

What you can try is go to the File menu (in any office app, it's global Office settings) - Options - Advanced. In the Display section, check Disable hardware graphics acceleration.

    Hope that helps!

That was a huge jump! However your specs should be able to handle this.

Are you doing anything in the background at the same time? it almost sounds like 2013 is lagging?

You could also do an Office repair. Open Control Panel, select Programs & Features, scroll down to Microsoft Office 2013, Right Click on it & select Change, this will open a couple of Repair options you can try.

It was a big jump! The only reason I did it is because I want to put it on my resume. /irony

    Yes...everything is zippy except outlook.

It's only a day old! I'm trying it. "it can't hurt"

    It's still brutally slow.

Do you still have Office 2003 installed on your computer. If so this may be causing some problems.

Do you have a large number of emails from Office 2003 that Outlook 2013 is now using.

I did not actually uninstall 2003 when I installed 2013. 2013 downloaded w/my keycard and just started installing so I let it go. However, 2003 appears to be gone.

Yes...my outlook files surely has a lot of emails. 1000s. One odd thing is that my original pst file was 1.5Gb but the new file is less than .4Gb. I suppose 2013 indexes differently???
