    Corrupt Word file


    OK, I was asked this question, and I can't come up with an good anser...

    A Friend of mine have some Word Files that has been Corrupt, atleast I thing so, because it wont recognize it in Word and it shows only freek symbols in an Text Editor... I have also tryed with MS Works...

    Is it Possible, if the file is corrupted, to re-create it with out loos of data???

    I am thinking it is because of its default opener for .docs files.
    you can change it: right click file>open with>choose default program...>(choose MS Word) and make sure to check mark the "always use the selected program to open this kind of file".

    That's true as a Text Editor such as Notepad doesn't work with formatting, usually shows. Might try it in WordPad. I've had success opening stubborn files in QuickView Plus, usually can copy readable text and paste into a program.

    Part of the formatting of the .doc file is for creating 2 columns seen in Word but won't display as such here.

    I don't know if this will help, but it might be worth trying. You may need to reset the the normal.dotm in Word. The MS website below is for Word 2010, but it might work for other versions.
