    Word 2003 Issues

    I'm trying to get a new PC running 7 HP going with Office 2003. There is a sample of 2007 on there, which I don't want to buy since I have a version of Office already (and also don't want to uninstall because it came preloaded on the system without accompanying disks and I may want to upgrade at some point in the future). Now, this co-installation is driving me crazy for two reasons.
    1) It won't let me install the xml compatability pack for 2003 because 07 is on there;
    and 2) It won't let me override Word 2007. I can override Excel, Powerpoint, etc with the 2003 using the "open with..." thing, but 2007 ALWAYS takes over even when I select the 2003 exe.

    Is there any way to tell Win 7 how to do things my way?

    Furbie,
    I installed Word 2000 over my Office 2007 Home Edition. I haven't used it much yet, but it seemed to work OK. I used the "open with..." (making sure I clicked the "always use this program" checkbox). Try launching the Word 2003 exe by itself. I've run Access 2000 and Access 97 on my old PC, and one thing that happened every time I switched versions is that Windows went through an "Installing ..." cycle (short) each time. Trying launching the 2003 version, be sure it opens the correct version, close it, and go through the "Open with ..." process again.
