In Excel 2013 stop ribbon buttons turning on and off

    Hi,

I've turned off animations and I've googled every which way I can think but I still have this problem.

I've recently updated to excel 2013 and when I type in a cell buttons turn off in the ribbon, so I can't for example centre or bold whilst typing which of course I wouldn't want to do anyway. When I'm done and move to next cell they all turn on again, then when I start typing they turn off. I have a couple of spreadsheets I update manually by quickly moving between cells and updating and this means the some buttons on the ribbon are constantly flashing on and off and on and off and it's very very annoying.

Any ideas. It's obvious to me I can't format a cell until I'm finished entering data and it's obvious I'm not finished until I've left the cell as that's when I can see whether it's been entered correctly.

    Thanks for any help.

Hi Carltonbp, welcome to Windows Seven Forums.

Mine does the same thing. You can close the Ribbon by just clicking on that little arrow over on the RH side of the screen in the ribbon area & this will collapse the ribbon.

To get it back again, right click on the blank area above the working area & untick "collapse ribbon".

Thanks, I have experimented with that, I shouldn't have to though. I got rid of the quick access toolbar because of this though I'd like to have it, but not if it's continually flashing on/off every time I do something. Call me weird but these distracting little things annoy me like crazy.

I can't offer any other solution as it seems a normal part of the program.
