HOW can I Convert vista home premium spreadsheets on 7 Ultimate x64

On my old notebook "windows vista home premium" Ihad several spreadsheets. That notebook died but the files were saved to my newcomputer “Windows 7 Ultimate x64”. Nowthe spreadsheets are extremely garbled and unreadable. How can I open thosefiles on the new computer?

You don't do any converting of spreadsheets or word processor documents [or others] in Windows but in the programs that can create them, e.g. Excel, Word, etc. It's very possible whatever caused the Notebook to die also corrupted the files.

Any newer version of the program can open files created in the older version, Excel 2007 can open files from Excel 2003 and earlier. The only real issue with Office applications is the format changed beginning with Office 2007, by default adds an x to the file extension, .doc became .docx, .xls became .xlsx, etc. The same applies with Office on a MAC OS X computer, pretty much compatible with Office files from a Windows computer.
