    Outlook wont start following update

Today 11 Nov 2015, I received a host of updates. At least 10 of them were for Microsoft Office. I downloaded and installed, did the mandatory reboot everything seemed fine until I tried to open my outlook 2010. The start screen came up for a couple of seconds and then it shut down. There is no way I could get it to start. I ended doing a system restore, and that seems to have fixed the problem. Looks like MS have created a problem at least on my machine with the Office updates. Not sure if anyone here has experienced this.

I applied all updates to one Virtual Machine, one laptop and one desktop. Outlook 2010 on the desktop started, but crashed when I tried simple tasks. System Restore fixed the issue. Outlook 2010 on the laptop was/is fine. Go figure.

The VM does not have Office installed.

    Hello Exfso,

I am not at a computer guru :) but I have learned recently to not touch any update till two weeks have passed. Then all the problems and mistakes will have come out off the wood work and you know what you are dealing with.

Just a personal observation, normally there is no rush with updating

I've had exactly the same problem.
Outlook opened in Safe mode, so I disabled all the add-ins, but still would not open in normal mode.
Tried running a PST repair, found errors and fixed them, but didn't fix the problem.
Tried running a office repair, did not fix.
    Re-installed Office, did not fix.
    System restore, and now working.
So BIG **** up with last nights windows update.

It is getting to the point that one is not game to download any updates due to the flaky nature of a lot of them in recent times. I wonder if MS know about this little gem, I would lay odds that there are thousands of people been stung by this stuff-up. Good old MS does it yet again
I suspect the culprit is somewhere in the list shown.

You can try uninstalling KB 3097877 and see if that helps.
I wonder if this KB is a bad update ?

I am joining the party too. This morning - when opening ANY email that uses a secure connection (https) - Outlook 2013 instantly crashes. I first got a payment reminder from Paypal - tried to open it and instantly crash. Then I updated an email on one my audio software accounts and of course when I got the verification email to confirm the change (also using https links) - same crash.

I have a ticket into MS - but I suspecting one or more of that update package yesterday is the culprit.

EDIT: Yes! Removing KB 3097877 returns Outlook 2013 to working again!

Good to know. Should be a fun discussion with MS when I get them on the line here.
