Office 2010 functions, more or less, even though it's not there

Win 7 and Office 2010 were on my PC when bought. I'm now on Win 10 and want to repair it. When Word or Excel starts they show the 2010 symbol. They are in the list of program in the start menu. The apps run with errors. However, they are not in the Control Panel's list and not in either Program folder. So, I can't run repair.
For example when trying to save then get Error 1706. Setup cannot find the required files... see SETUP.CHM. Then it saves.
In Excel, if there is an = in each cell, corrections look erroneous until a find and replace of = with = is done.
I have no idea where the Office dlls are located. I can see other app dlls.
Some of the probems started in Win 7.

It looks like you will have to reinstall Office 2010.

You said Office 2010 was on the computer when you bought it. Does that mean you don't have the installation disc?. Do you have the activation code, if so you could download a new copy from Microsoft.

Is the computer a Dell & did it come from Dell with Office 2010 installed, if so then contact Dell & see if you can get an installation disc from them.

Don't have disks. Just asked if I wanted to activate msi from internet or phone. Internet won't work. Is there any point in calling? This was a refurbished Vista that came with Win 7 and Office 2010 installed; no disks.

You seem to have major problems. You could try a hard disc reformat & a fresh installation of either Windows 7 or 10 & a fresh installation of Office 2010. There may well other problems with that computer as well so it might be time to update or rebuild it. It's probably 9 years old & it may not be fully compatible with Windows 10 either.

You also say no internet connection either.

From what you have said it seems that this computer originally had Windows Vista on it & somewhere along the line Office 2010 was added as Vista came out 2007 & Office 2010 was not released until 2010. Windows 7 was released in July 2009.

If you don't have an activation code for Office 2010 you will have will have to try & buy a complete installation DVD. Of course getting a new copy of Office will not fix the internet problem or other operating system problems.
