Email Attachments From MS Word Without Outlook

I have seen Vista registry patches for this problem, but none for Windows 7 yet that work (the Vista patches don't do the job).

I want to send email attachments from within MS Office 2007 applications, MS Word, etc., via Windows Live mail, without having Outlook 2007 installed at all. If Windows Live Mail is the default email program, attempts to send the current Office document as an email attachment produce an error message to use Outlook as the email program.

Is there a registry patch to permit this functionality without Outlook 2007? I prefer the simplicity of Windows Live Mail but am not willing to give up the MS Office email attachment functionality without a fight.
