    Outlook 2010 Won't Open

    Dear Win 7 Forum folks,

From the Office 2010 Pro beta, Outlook worked fine for a few days but now I get an error message: "Cannot start Microsoft Outlook. Cannot open the Outlook window."

I've tried to repair Outlook, cleaned the registry, deleted, reinstalled and rebooted to no avail. I can't find a help file on the Microsoft Web site.

    What should I try next?

    Thanks in advance.

Thanks a million times for this regedit trick !!! I looked all over & nothing would work. I tried all the uninstallers, reg cleaners, etc, etc. nothing worked.
    My problem was this:
When I tried to load MS Outlook I got the following message, and Outlook would not start up.
"Cannot open your default e-mail folder. The file c:\users\username\Appdata\Local\Microsoft\Outlook\username_hotmail.ost is not an Outlook data file (.ost)"

Your trick worked fine: just delete the profiles key.

    THANKS!!!

Outlook is open but I can't find it...

...until I go to restart when Windows 7 tells me it's closing it first. And sometimes Office won't even start on reboot. The pointer wheel spins then stops but the program doesn't open.

Just advised same thing happening with Excel- program was open but then couldn't be found on desktop. W7 said it was closing it for restart though...

Brand new install of Office 2010 on Windows 7 system.

    Thanks, Steve

I have this same problem and have tried solutions mention here and other places and continue to get the same error message "Cannot start microsoft outlook" I couldn't run the resetnavpane because it would just error. Yes I went to the program files (x86)..... I tried several things - none worked UNTIL I found this regedit- A BIG thank you for this information. I wasn't too upset as I just converted, actually went from is better term, XP Pro 32 bit to Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit, then loaded Office 2010 Professional Plus. Prior to this I didn't use outlook or anything other than word. What I did use was thunderbird which was fine, but decided to try Microsoft office. I had never even executed Outlook and it stilled errored on the first try! All the other programs in the package opened with no problem. This was one of the hardest, not hardest, but close while doing this change in operating systems. Thanks Again Capt Jack
