dual boot : Outlook rule synchronization

    Hello all,

i have been dual booting for a while with no problems so far in sharing some apps, except for my Outlook rules. The personal, profile, data etc files are all in sync, but when i go to check my mail say on the 7 side, everything is re-downloaded because the rules aren't sorting on the OS/machine they weren't created on. Not sure if i'm making sense or not, but here is an example ...

    on vista ...
rule to move all mail through my yahoo account to the yahoo folder

    on 7 ...
same rule now says to move all mail through my yahoo account, and on this machine only (although beside the rule name is says "for other machine" in parenthesis, which somehow was added automatically), to the yahoo folder

what this is doing is tricking Outlook into thinking it hasn't downloaded those emails yet so it downloads them all again, but this time to the main inbox (since it is not being sorted by the rule). Then when i switch back to the Vista side, i have a million duplicates to deal with and remove, and vice versa. Has anyone else experienced this, with having a hard time getting rules to synchronize? Using Vista Home Premium, with 7 Pro, and Outlook 2007 Enterprise on both OS's. Thanks, this is really starting to give me a migraine

    allwhoseek, welcome to the forums

Do you have the "leave messages on server" box unchecked in your Win7 Outlook?

no, i always check to leave my messages on the server, so that i could get me email(s) on different computers and cell phone. Was i wrong in thinking that? I just figured i would avoid "losing" emails by always leaving the originals on the servers.

p.s. i have a few email accounts (i think i currently have 8 i use with outlook), and many many rules.

You are right, that is the way you can get them on more than one computer. But you shoudn't be getting them twice on the same computer / email system.

One solution would be to determine a computer as "the last one" and uncheck the box on that computer, so as you download the emails on that one they will be removed from the server. That is what I do. You would loose your "backup" feature though.

I do not use rules like you do so I am not sure why it is doing that. I am afraid I can't help further

i've googled the topic to death with no real solution. i can't really change the rules to fit each OS as all the Outlook stuff is stored on the Vista partition. If i change it in one, it changes the other. thanks for trying to help ...
