    Normal.dot in Microsoft Word 2003

I have a new laptop with Windows 7 pre-installed. I'm running Microsoft Office 2003 and want to change the normal.dot file, but I can't get at it. Windows Explorer tells me it's at C:\Users\Owner\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Templates\normal.dot, but I don't see andy AppData in the Users\Owner display. Currently to open a Word file, I basically go through C - Users - Owner - My Documents - WORD.DOC

I have similar ACCESS.DOC, EXCEL.DOC, PDF.DOC, PPT.DOC folders in My Documents to get into files for those Microsoft Office programs.

In Explorer go to Tools menu, Folder Options, View, then make sure to enable Show Hidden Files Folders and Drives.

    Otherwise you wont' see AppData.

Also select to Set all Folders with those settings.

You also need to uncheck "Hide protected operating system files".

You can find the Word 2003 Normal template (Normal.dot) by searching for %appdata%/Microsoft/templates. You probably know that you need to right-click Normal.dot to to open it in Word. If you double-click the template instead, that just opens a new Word document, instead of the template, and no template changes can be saved.
