Outlook 2010 Beta and IMAP -- BEWARE

    Hi all
Not sure I've posted this before but if you use IMAP please note that DELETE in Outlook 2010 now DOES delete mail from the server.

Outlook 2007 and earlier just had a horizontal line through the items you want to delete. You then had to use edit===>Purge to actually delete the mail from the server folder.

So if you don't actually want to DELETE the mail from the folder then be careful.

I like having the line through the items - as I often use another machine such as a laptop and can also select what items I want copied to the "personal" inbox on the laptop before finally purging the mail.

BTW for the most part I'm extremely impressed with Office 2010 beta.

    Cheers

    wrong

....but if you use IMAP please note that DELETE in Outlook 2010 now DOES delete mail from the server.....
you got a "Trash" folder now where the items are being moved to.

when you go into an imap mailbox the first three folders you see are "Inbox", "Sent Items" and "Trash"

only when you delete the emails from the mailbox's trash folder they are eventually gone. to do so highlight all mail in your trash folder, press the "shift" key and then click the "delete" button on the ribbon.

    cheers

    Hi there

it ISN't on my server -- appears just as I showed in my previous post.

Can you post a screenshot of your folder list -- I've looked all over the place -- and checked every possible setting in my copy of Outlook 2010 and can't make a trash folder appear.

Outlook 2007 works fine with the deleted items just having a line through them -- and on another machine where I've set the system up to work as POP3 rather than IMAP I can see a trash folder -- but not with IMAP.

Maybe I've got a "Rogue" copy of Office 2010.

    Cheers

    Hi there

Tried that LINE for LINE and it still doesn't appear

Followed the instructions EXACTLY and re-booted just to make sure the whole outlook system is re-started from scratch.

-- I'll re-download and try Outlook 2010 on another machine tomorrow.

    Cheers
