in outlook 2010, i understand one can use a gmail account without actually opening up the gmail account, that is he can run the account from outlook, does that mean one can delete messages also, just like a regular account.
when i try to delete a message, it deletes it from the inbox of that gmail account in outlook 2010, but under the gmail folder it updates itself, and downloads it again, even after i delete it from the gmail folder also.

thanks.

Hallo tapuz, you may have to sign into your gmail account and delete all your old messages.
From there select settings in the top RH corner
Then select Forwarding & pop/imap tab
In the pop download column go to option 2 and in the drop down box select delete gmails copy
Then select save changes.
This will stop gmail saving a copy once Outlook has downloaded it to your computer.
I hope this solves your problem, if not post back

mitchell64 thanks for the tip, my problem is, i do not necessarily want to delete every gmail from the server, just the ones i choose, i understood that in 2010 one can control this directly from outlook 2010. maybe it was a missunderstanding.
your tip is true for 2007 & 2003 also, am i right ?

You need to set the account up as IMAP rather than POP3 to get this functionality.

When you setup gmail in your outlook, did you do it manually or let outlook set it up? can you post your settings from the advanced options for deleted items. What folder did you tell outlook to move the deleted items on the server to? When you check the settings, make sure you select trash as the folder to move the deleted items to. let me know if you need help finding your settings in outlook.

Double check your imap settings in Gmail. Worse case scenario, I would remove the account from outlook, then set it up again.

I have win 2010 outlook; on the left side under Outlook Data File>Inbox, (does not show any received mail> Drafts,> Sent, etc; the sent folder does not show any emails that I have sent, deleted emails go to my gmail Trash folder, and do not appear in the Deleted folder under the Data File
Then under that my gmail address > Inbox, Gmail > Junk Mail etc, there is no Deleted folder.
I would like to strighten this up, how can I get rid of this redundence and have deleted emails get into my Outlook, Sent emails get into the Sent folder and have just one set of folders?

Here a look at my gmail settings note that the setting to wait for the client to update gmail is selected:
That way outlook has the power to move and delete and place the mail wherever you want it from outlook: :)
