Office 2007 -- seems like an old friend after 2010
Hi all
I've been a bit disappointed with Ms Office 2010 from a USER point of few -- I like the appearance etc but there are just TOO many bugs to consider running it on a Daily use Machine -- especially with the way Outlook 2010 seems to work (or not work correctly) when using IMAP.
I'll try things a few times but email is DEFINITELY ONE THING that should be 100% - even if it is a BETA product.
I can forgive the occasional glitch in say an EXCEL macro - or even some strange print problems with word but my email NEEDS to work as near correctly as the version I already have.
MS this is a SERIOUS error --
If you have 2 machines one running Outlook 2010 and the other 2007 - purged mail is INVISIBLE on 2010 -- fine that's what you would expect
However when you logon on to your other machine with outlook 2007 the email is still listed in the IMAP folders with a line through them -- and if you haven't purged your folder using Outlook 2007 then your IMAP mailbox can get full after a week or so..
It seems only outlook 2007 will purge these from the server if you set Outlook 2010 to "keep mail on the server".
If I delete without purge the mail just disappears from any folder in Outlook 2010.
This is NOT how email should behave.
I might be able to tinker around for obscure settings to make Outlook 2010 behave a bit like Outlook 2007 -- I haven't succeeded yet.
Now If I'm having trouble I think your average user won't have a hope.
BTW I suspect there are some of you using Outlook 2010 who don't realize this behaviour since you aren't also using Outlook 2007 (or earlier) on a different machine which is trying to access the same email account.
Cheers
