Office Word 2003 in Win 7

    Hi everybody,

I have two probs. & hope someone knows the solution(s).

    1. Have successfully installed Office 2003 into Win 7. To date (the last 3 weeks, that is,) I have none of the crashes, stops, error messages, etc. that some people here have. Outlook 2003 is working fine and Word 2003 does, too, in Win 7 (fingers crossed) . I only have a minor annoyance, though: In Word 2003, I cannot get the little "office assistant" to appear like I could in XP. When I try, the message comes up:"...requires Microsoft Agent 2.0 or later". Where the hell do I get Microsoft Agent 2.0 (or later)? I do like the little characters, though I suppose I could exist without them. Any suggestions?...

    2. My username will probably appear here as FLYUERBOB. When I registered I accidentally mistyped it - should be FLYERBOB. I've tried the "change profile" field, but it doesn't provide for modification of username. I really don't fancy re-registering just to exclude a miserable "U". How can I change this with my current registration?

    Many thanks for any help.

Try a search for "office assistant" on the MS Office site and/or try a search for "Microsoft Agent".

    office assistant in word 2003

Thanks, I went to Microsoft Agent, for Office Assistants but after descriptions of the various issues that can develop as a result of installing it, I'd rather live without the little b.....ds.

Thank you for trying to help.

    1. I'm not quite ready to upgrade from Office 2003 - too expensive.

    2. Good idea, I'll find out how to contact Admin & try.

    Cheers

The Microsoft Agent thing was removed in Windows 7 due to....no one really used it in turn no point in maintaining it. But if you really want it... http://support.microsoft.com/kb/969168

Microsoft recently announced that "Microsoft has decided to discontinue development of Microsoft Agent technologies. Beginning with Windows 7, Microsoft Agent will not be included or supported in future versions of the Microsoft Windows operating system. We encourage Microsoft Agent application developers and redistributors to evaluate their activities in light of this decision." Microsoft is no longer offering licenses and no longer distributes the SDK.

    Re: Outlook Hotfix

    Hi "logiceart"

Thanks for the tip. I've downloaded the 'hotfix' for Office Outlook Assistant, though not installed it yet.

Will set restore point first, just in case it buggers up my whole system.

    Fingers (and legs) crossed!

Let us know how it turns out. Personally, I don't miss it; I thought it was a PITA.
