Cant open up attachments in Windows 7 Live Mail

People send me photos, documents, etc with the attachments and I’m unable to open them. When I click on them, it tries to open with Microsoft Office Home & Student 2007 / enter a Product key. I don’t have that program installed. The people who are sending me these things don’t have the program either.

How can I set it to open in a different program?

    Thanks in advance,

    Scotty

the usual way is to right-click on the attachment and select "Open with.."
then you choose the bottom option and select a default program that will always be used to open the attachment..

    - is this not working for you..?

you might need to change your set-up parameters:

otherwise, there are ways round it:

I recognise this exact fault and have sorted it this way.
(all useful replies should start like this, 'helpful' techies please take note)

In Internet Explorer browser toolbar, click Tools, Internet options, Advanced. Cursor well down to the security section and uncheck the box at 'Do not save encrypted files to disk'.

people still find these forums when searching Google for solutions to this frequently reported problem. So I put this answer on as many forums as I could be bothered registering for.

Working answers are difficult to find because of the investigative analytical replies they attract. (eg have you disabled your antiviral software, updated latest pdf cleaner, re-loaded your operating system, you could always switch to Linux etc) Hope this helps.
