    Word Doc Reverts to Read-Only

I am using Windows 7 and Office 2003. I am sometimes able to work on a Word doc then if I save & close it & try to work on it again it suddenly becomes Read-Only .
I have looked at the Properties and the Read-Only box is not checked

Please can anyone tell me how I can overcome this?

I cannot even do a Save As as it won't let me

    Thank you

    Welcome

Probably caused by some other process on your system. Difficult to diagnose if the problem is an infrequent one. Did this just start? If so what have you done? Installed anything new, made tweeks etc?

I have seen this... I think it depends on where the file is saved initially. IIRC, I overcome it by running Office 2003 as administrator.

That sounds like a potentially good remedy.

Thank you for the replies. It has only just started happening since I got my new laptop running on Windows 7 a few weeks ago. The only way I seem to be able to overcome the problem is to close the document & wait a few minutes then open it up & re-do all the amendments & then I ma able to save.
