Office 07 issue with "Sending command to program"

I have perused the web and not found a ready answer to this problem, although it has apparently been out there for several years. I am running Win 7 X64 and first had this problem using Firefox. Then I set IE as default browser, and it is now happening with IE. More and more programs are not opening, or links in Outlook that try to open something in IE ... I get the error message and a blank IE screen. In Firefox, I'd get the message and then the window would open ... irritating but better than no window opening at all. What is the fix? One source I pulled up mentioned changing a registry key, but didn't tell me how/where to find instructions. I am open to suggestions ... this is frustrating. Thanks.

In oder to fix we must diagnose why it isw happening. Can you go into event viewer by typing eventvwr in search

Go to the windows log>application tab.

Look for critical errors (they have red in the left hand column) that say app hang, app crash, or anything relating to the problem.

When you find them note the event ID and source codes and let us know what they are.

Let us know if you need help

Did you learn anything from the event log?

Still hoping someone can help me fix this. In my research online, I learned it has something to do with opening the program the link needs, and it is true that it doesn't happen if the program is already open, such as my browser. One article mentioned changing registry keys (deleting something) but didn't give specifics. Please advise. Thanks.

Nancy, you need to expand the errors (double-click on them) in the application log and post the details of those errors. We can see that you encountered errors but without the details, we can't tell what errors you are getting.

Three of the four errors you show reference problems with Adobe so the first thing I would do is try uninstalling Adobe and reinstalling the latest version.

    Adobe

Lovely, it is Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro I have on this machine. Do I have to uninstall ALL of it, or just the Reader?
