Please wait while windows configures MS Office 2010

Every time I launch Outlook a box comes up stating, "Please wait while windows configures microsoft office professional plus 2010"
Outlook 2010 splash screen comes up - shows Loading Profile - then the error message above comes up.

    1. Uninstalled Office 2007
    2. Cleaned out remainder of Office using:
How to manually uninstall the 2007 Office system if you cannot uninstall it by using the "Add or Remove Programs" feature
    3. Installed Office 2010
(Never had any beta versions installed of either Office version)
    4. Deleted and rebuilt Outlook profile
    5. Started Outlook in safe mode (/safe)
    6. Disabled all Outlook add-ins
    7. Ran Office Repair
    8. Googled the error - nothing useful
    9. Created shortcut directly to outlook.exe - didn't help.
Not sure how to read results from "troubleshooting logging" offered in Outlook 2010

Still get, "Please wait while windows configures microsoft office professional plus 2010"

    Win 7 32 bit / Office 32 bit / MS Security Essentials

Any suggestions - I'lly try anything twice!

Do you use a registry cleaner like CC Cleaner? I was having your issue for the longest time and it turned out that CC Cleaner was wiping out some important registry entries.

    Yes, I do use ccleaner.
I've uninstalled and reinstalled since and still have the problem. I understand, regardless of reinstalling, ccleaner may be the root cause.
Still need a fix though - people at work have had this problem too - people that definitely don't use any regcleaners.

Well, on your system, I would recommend uninstalling CC Cleaner, then uninstalling and reinstalling Office and see if that works. I'll look around and see if I can come up with any other solutions.

Thank you BlackroseMD1. CCleaner isn't running in the background and I've tried reinstalling Office 2010 a couple of times. Googling the web, I found a lot of people with this problem - many from all the way back from the early 2010 beta days and still up today. I guess CCleaner may have caused it. I just wonder though, was a registry cleaner the cause for everyone having this problem?

I can't say if it was for everyone, but it was for me. I think some of the other things that may cause the issue are older versions of Office didn't completely uninstall, or the install corrupted a key in the registry. I had a thread for this problem up on Connect, but I can't seem to find it now. If I do find it, I'll link you to it.

When the error message (configuring ....) shows is there a cancel option? if there is does the cancel option cause the outlook to load correctly?

I had this error on one machine with visio and it seemed to be related to an install of previous office apps (2003 not 2007)

I have seen some success reported following the information in the KB you posted, but In my case I resorted to a complete re-install of the OS (not a great issue on the machine in question which is a lab machine but not ideal for production systems ).

This error is apparently due to remnants of the installer rather than the actual applications and the reconfigure is "by design" for multiple office versions on the same machine - not helpful but If you extend your use of the KB instructions to pre office 12 folders (2007 = office 12), you may have more luck

If I follow you, this PC has only had Office 2007 and 2010 on it. I just tried cancelling the box out and it errored out and didn't open Outlook. I see a format in my near future.

I can understand your frustration with this - I spend quite a few hours on this as it is such a regular reported problem, and I wanted to have the solution available for the future.

Another post on this forum today mentioned that after a normal uninstall of office 2010 there were over 9000 orphaned registry entries (using revo uninstaller showed the extent, revo may be an option for yourself to try Revo Uninstaller - Free software downloads and software reviews - CNET Download.com ).

The office uninstaller leaves a lot to be desired
