They don't have to be for a program to be slow. Have you tried my advice about defragging the hard drive, and emptying temp folders. If you think a virus is running in the background, by all means download, install, update, and run MalwareBytes. It's advised you empty temp folders first, and to ignore any hits that come from system restore. I still standby what I said before. 5 seconds to open is good for some stuff. Also, larger hard drive can take longer to find some stuff depending on where it is stored. 1TB for example, is great for storage but horrible for performance.
