Good advice. That "WIN"Word used to confuse the dickens out of me when I was looking for just plain old "Word".

Just in case, Office 2010 will be under Office14. Also, it could be in the Program Files (x86) folder if you are not using the 64-Bit version.

(I feel guilty nitpicking such a good answer.)

WIN + E | double-click on C: | double-click on Program Files | in the search bar, enter winword.exe | what do you see?

Do you have the Office disc and have you tried a reinstall?

(Sorry if this has been covered. I skimmed the thread again and didn't see it if it was.)

Sorry, it was late when I posted that last night. If it's not too late, go to Control Panel and look for office in the Programs area. If you go to uninstall it there should be a "repair" option.

If that doesn't work, then try the reinstall.

could u give me a step by step on how to do it. All I know is how to get the command prompt up. What do I do afterwards and so on?
Step One: Find Command Prompt on your Start Menu, right-click it and Run As Administrator

Step Two: type in:

assoc .doc

and hit Enter on the keyboard

Step 3: Write down what it says and post back.
Ok, it says this now:

I reinstalled the software, and still no WINWORD.exe in my C drive. However, I have found that when I have word open, a virtual drive pops up, with WINWORD inside. I can't browse the drive unfortunately (I found the file through the "Open" dialogue in Word).
