If you open up WMP and search for the song through there, will it play? Or can you not open up WMP at all?

About 5 monthes ago, a friend tried to downgrade from wmp 12 to wmp 11 and he told me that he messed with the registry and moved some files... I'm not to sure what happen. He was following some directions on how to do it but i guess it was to complex so he gave up...i think that's what messed things up. but i never noticed since i just started using wmp and other people that use this pc never had a problem since they opened it from the shortcut from the desktop.... how do i go about fixin this...thanks oh and there was never no restore point set.

First Step : Find out which version of WMP the shortcut on the desktop is

Second Step : Search for a music file > Right click that file > Click Open With > Choose the correct WMP version

Try searching for a music file from the start menu again and open it
