Windows7 DVD Maker & mkv files

    Hi guys,

After spending an hour reading posts, am I correct that I cant use Windows7 DVD Maker to convert mkv files to play on my DVD player for the TV?

If I download & install Shark's codec pack will DVD Maker recognise the file extension and convert/burn it OK for a DVD player?

If it doesn't, is there a lighweight program that will convert mkv files (not a full blown video player/editing program that I have to install)?

    thanks,
    Jane

The easiest to use for converting mkv to standard DVD is probably

    DVD Flick

Set it to just output a VIDEO_TS folder and then burn with The Official ImgBurn Website

They are both free programs that work well.

humm I think I outsmarted myself.

I used DVD Flick and seeing as it gave me the option I burned it to DVD.
Audio is out of synch and video is 'blocky' in places.

Trying a different file and outputing to VIDEO_TS folder, then I'll try and burn as suggested with other program.

Even if a converter can go directly to burn and do it right, it's generally a better idea to output VIDEO_TS and look it over. Unless you have DVD+rw erasable discs. Then you can test burn without making a coaster. A box of 5 will do an awful lot of burns before they "wear out." In fact the erasable CDs and DVDs I have didn't wear out they just became obsolete. A newer PC burner just doesn't like 'em so they sit in a box. :)

Failed using DVD Flick and outputing to VIDEO_TS.
Program gave me an error message at the end of converting.
I think I'll go look for another program rather than DVD Flick.
Thanks for your your hep anyway. :)

are you making the mkv files yourself or is that what you are downloading?
maybe you should make or download dixv/xvid or dvd compliant mpeg2 files instead.

Here's a few more, but basically any program that will input AviSynth scripts(.avs files) should be able to do it if you have .mkv support. You may need to install a media splitter or FFDShow.
