Video Freezing, Sound Skipping and Cracking

I've had this problem for a little while. It was originally only with Skype but in recent days has gotten a lot worse with Skype and I've had it come up while just watching YouTube videos or other streaming videos.

It starts out fine. A few minutes in, the video can freeze and skip. The audio also skips and cracks. It freezes or slows my entire computer, sometimes making the only possible solution, popping out the battery and restarting. Occasionally, it stops doing that for a few seconds or minutes but than starts again.

It makes it extremely hard to use Skype, YouTube or any other streaming video. If anyone has any ideas what my issue could be, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks in advance!

Well, it could be pretty much anything concerning your hardware.
The only thing I can say for now is to try and update GPU and chipset/audio drivers from the manufacturer's website, respectively.

You say that you originally only use Skype for streaming videos? Does the same thing happen when playing videos from your HDD? Should we assume that you do not have any codec packs installed? Also, I'd like to know which software you use to play those videos from the HDD (if any)

As far as YouTube, the only thing that pops into my mind is to update Flash for the web browser you use, even if you already had it installed some time ago.
