Not able to Delete MP4 Videos

Not able to Delete MP4 Videos

Shift+Delete the File it is showing the Message
" The Action cannot be completed because the file is open in another program"

I have not opened that video.

All MP4 Videos have the same problem

I have even restarted the System

I have Checked for the process using the Windows Task Manager

No Process is using the video

    Still No Solution.
    Thanks in advance

Hi lokeshkumarn and a warm welcome to the Forum.
This is not an unusual problem and seems to be peculiar to MP4 files.
The solution that has worked for some is to go into "Safe Mode" and try to delete from there.
Give it a try and let us know if it works for you!

OK Here's the next idea, try the "Unlocker" software from here:

This is a weird thumbnailing sort of issue that many times involves Windows Live Photo Gallery invoking QuickTime. You can disable support for this by using the steps in How to disable and restore QuickTime support in Windows Live Photo Gallery. After the reboot, then try deleting these MP4 Files again and see if you're able to do so.

    Kill explorer.exe

If this, on its own, is still not enough, then leave the command line window on the desktop, open Task Manager (Ctrl + Shift + Esc), and kill all explorer.exe tasks. Your desktop will go blank, except for the windows already open.
Now try to delete the offending file by means of the DEL command, or folder by means of the RMDIR (remove directory) command, in the command line window, as described above.
After that, in the command line window enter:
    explorer
to restart your desktop. If you closed the command line window, you can still restart explorer by opening the Task Manager by holding down the Ctrl and Shift keys and briefly pressing the Esc key. In Task Manager select Applications, New Task and enter: explorer
I don't have QuickTme.. I uninstalled it quite a time ago and still some MP4's are stubborn to be deleted.
The above method is ideal and quick and it works even for other extensions.
    i got it from winhlp.com

This worked for me... if anyone still has problems

    1. Rename all the .mp4 files to .mp files
    2. Restart
    3. Delete the files
