For the last 4 years I used a Canon Lide 80 Scanner, which was a trustworthy piece of very useful equipment. When I upgraded and bought a new computer, I of course opted for Windows 7 Professional x64. To my shock the Scanner wasn't compatible. A lot of help pages suggested running the scanner in compatibility mode, but it still didn't work.
I wanted to help others by posting this and letting them know that if you have a Lide 80, it won't run on 64 bits systems, no matter what version of windows you are running!
Now in a way I'm glad that I still had my old software, which had included Arcsoft PhotoStudio 5 included. The reason for this is that I noticed when I loaded in the software for my new compatible scanner, a Canon Lide 100, the photo editing software was Arcsoft PhotoStudio 5.5. When I tried running 5.5, it said it was incompatible with Windows 7, and redirected me to a site where I could buy PhotoStudio 6 for $29.95!! Very kind of them!! But guess what! PhotoStudio 5 works perfectly with Windows 7!!!
