    Can't play mp4 file using MPC-HC

Recently I've downloaded some mp4 files but strangely some of them can't be played using media player classic home cinema. I have some video which are in mp4 files but only 2 of them can't be play. I can play them and there's audio, but there's no video and I've tried using my brother's laptop with the same programme, strangely it works there. Help please?

    Hi,

The MP4 files you talk about may have been encoded with a different video Codec.

Try downloading Shark 007's Codecs and see if that works :)

could be a bunch of things, codecs, configuration issues, fire wall, etc.

Could we get a bunch more info?

    system specs?

do they play in safe mode?

do they play on other players like VLC?

Go to options and see which renderer is used to output videos. Haali Media Splitter is good for all H264 encoded files (MP4, M4V,MKV, MOV etc.) but it can result in some DVDs and/or MPEG2 files not displaying properly, so I suggest you check the EVR renderer instead, restart MPCHC and see how it goes.

Alternatively, if you have K-Lite installed, you should really consider either getting rid of it and installing Shark's codecs, or switching to a software that does not require external codecs, but instead uses them bundled (VLC, KM Player etc.)

those videos can be played with vlc and wmp. Does MPC affects dvd playing as well? Recently i tried watching DVD using MPCHC, but it stopped and was not responding there after playing for like 10 seconds. Thought it was MPCHC problem, tried VLC as well but the same thing happens. Then when i tried to replace the dvd, none of the video programmes can play the dvd. Am I missing some codecs or is my laptop really sensitive?

edit: downloaded shark's codec. I uninstall and reinstalled MPCHC and those mp4 files can be played, but somehow dvd can't be play

Your version of MPC-HC is using codecs built into the player.
If you have installed the Shark007 codecs, I also offer pre-configured versions of MPC-HC that will used the installed codecs instead of the internal codecs on my Tools Page
