Do NOT delete those files! For crying out loud... you can simply turn off and replace any and all sound effects reproduced by Windows.
Click the start orb and type in "sounds", then choose System Sounds from the list of search results. In the list of Sound Schemes just choose "no sounds", or make a new one and assign your own audio clips.
Just turn it off as suggested by Gornot.
You may cause registry problems and will be on the BSOD section wondering why nothing works right and you will be doing a Win 7 reinstall.

Exactly, thanks for the clarification, Mike.
And that's not all, the worst case scenario may be that you screw up the registry and/or the whole installation of Windows. The least of your problems would be an error code window appearing each time Windows needs to play a sound and the file is not there. Another problem could be loading themes downloaded from Microsoft or even third party themes downloaded from sites like deviantART.
I understand that you don't need it, but the system does
If you need to clear some HDD space, there are other resources you can get rid of, hehe
Ah life was so simple with Windows XP/Vista.... :-D ..
thansk for yer help :)
Hello to everyone,
I'm sorry to bring this topic back again, but I was about to delete media folder and saw these strong words not to do this.
I just want to make sure: I shouldn't delete media folder even if I don't use any sounds and any themes (MS or third party) and I'm not going to use sounds or themes in future?
In that case, what can system look for in media folder? In other words: how can it fluence on
or registry?
Thank you for answers in advence!
