Windows 7: Drag & Drop 'Creates Links'

Drag & Drop 'Creates Links'

I previously posted this thread:

Drag & Drop 'Creates Links'...

The problem is happening again, but I think the thread has been buried within the melee, hence why I'm creating this one.

My issue is being unable to drag and drop music onto my HTC Desire, and sometimes my external HD. It won't copy or move, it just wants to 'create a link'.

Any help appreciated.

Is there any chance that your ALT key "hangs" ?
What happens, if you press CTRL or SHIFT while Drag/Drop?

Normally Drag/Drop while pressing ALT creates shortcuts, Drag/Drop with CTRL copies the file(s) and Drag/Drop with SHIFT moves the file(s) .

BTW (from the old thread) desktop.ini files are hidden by default

Bob2348:
Try dragging with the Right Mouse button; a context menu will ask what type of D'n'D you want to do.

Thanks for the replies.

@SledgeDG
Nothing happens when dragging whilst holding alt, shift or ctrl.

@rap33042
Doing that just brings up a choice of either 'Create Shortcut' or 'Cancel'.

Where are the files located specifically that you are trying to copy over?

Within the regular Windows Music folder is a sub-folder called 'Audio' where I keep all my music.

I can drag and drop a music file from the 'Music' folder, but not the 'Audio' folder.

Who/what created the Audio folder and what are the permissions on the Audio folder?

The audio folder is a pre-existing one from when I copied it from my old computer to external HD, then onto this laptop.

I'm the only user, and the only one with permission.

Your problem sounds like a permissions problem on the folder in that it won't allow it to be copied.

Can you post a screenshot of the permissions on that folder?

Just a hunch...stop the Windows Media Player Network Sharing Service and try again
