It's kind of hard to tell you from afar what is running on your computer that interferes with wmp12.
How about you open the taskmanager and post snippets of all programs running while you get that error.if needed post 2 or 3 screens until we see them all. Then we can start guessing what to shut down

Screenshot attached. Let me know if I need to take another one. I included the entire list under the Processes tab.

OK the only processes I see, that could affect WMP and the CD Burning abilities would be the MediaFoundation Plug (mfpmp.exe = DRM) and AVG.
But I think you had both installed already when everything still worked a week ago. So let's take a different approach and restore the system back to that point in time when everything worked fine (~8-10 days ago)
System Restore

CDEX you can always install later as a last resort so to speak

I may be way off base but have you used any registry hacks that would set the 64bit WMP as the default player on Windows 7? The reason i ask is that a popular registry hack for this purpose is circulating the internet and it contains code that will cause this issue.

I haven't come across any registry hacks that I know of.

Tried a system restore and no-go on that. It actually caused IE to stop working. I reversed the system restore.

That's odd...You did reboot after the restore ?

Yeah. That's when IE wouldn't load. So I did another system restore back to when I did the first restore.

Wmp12
Have banged this thread in here as we don't seem to have a WMP section and to me MCE is different from WMP. Anyone found how to change the colour of the media player from the standard shades of blue? If so how? PS - I don't want to change skins, just colours.

WMP12 Issues
About a week ago i took my backup HDD over to a friends house and copied my music archive (around 55,000 MP3s) to his computer. After WMP12 had added the music into the library we noticed that a lot of tags were missing from files and they had 0bytes file size. We checked in windows explorer and...
