Can't rip CDs in WMP12 - need help!!!

Just started happening this week. When I try to rip a CD, I get this error:

The file is already in use. Close other programs that might be using the file, or stop playing the file, and then try again.

There are no other programs running the CD. Anyone know how to fix this or what's going on?

Check the taskmanager to see what is going on.
Looks like there is some program that interfers..shut down all background programs you don't need ATM and try again.

Or try this instead of WMP:
    Download | CDex

    -DG

I'm not too familiar with the Windows. Just enough knowledge to get around I suppose. So pardon my ignorance...but how do you run Task Manager?

Right click on the taskbar > Start Task Manager > Processes tab > click "Show processes from all users" (on the bottom left of the small window).

OK...thanks, whs. And what am I looking for in particular when in task manager in reference to the error code I'm getting?

Not sure what SledgeDG had in mind. But if you see any processes that you suspect to use the file, right click on the process and "End process". But if you end the wrong one, your system may get crippled. In case the system freezes, force a shutdown with the power button of the PC and reboot. Then things come back to order.

OK. Will do. Thanks for the help. Will report back later tonight probably to see if it works or not.

If you cannot get it to work, try the CDex program that SledgeDG linked. That is a good alternate option.

No go on the task manager - didn't see anything fishy, but to be honest, I don't really know what to look for.

Anything else before I download CDeX? I just think it's weird because I had no issues with ripping CDs before and then all of the sudden it starts having issues.
