    Windows Media Player Disappeared

    Hello,

Today i was going to see a DVD, and i couldn't find WMP.
I searched everywhere, Tried to Open With , but nothing there.
All is left is the Images. I checked on the Program Files folder, and it is empty. And strange thing is, i didn't even touch WMP.

But i did install Windows Media Player Classic, does it overrides it?
I uninstalled the WMP Classic but nothing yet,

PS: Please don't recommend another Player, i just want the WMP back.

    What can i do?
    Thanks,
    Alex.

Go to Turn feature On or Off and check that it has been added.

    Hello Alex.

See if turning it off, then back on may reset it to get it back.

Just wondering if anyone ever figured this one out; I'm having the same problem. All the media boxes are checked in the Windows Media section and of course I've tried turning it off and on again. Still no WMP, though. Shortly before it disappeared, it had stopped letting me rate my music, if that helps.

Hello OraxThay, and welcome to Seven Forums.

You might see if doing a System Restore using a restore point (if available) dated before this happened may be able to fix it for you.

    Hope this helps,
    Shawn

I only had one restore point, which was about 3am this morning, which was when I installed the latest security update for Windows. I restored to it anyway, and WMP is still MIA

I'm guessing you've checked in both the 64bit program files and 32 bit ones. If not try looking. The only thing I can think of that might help is deleting or fixing something in your registry.
I was trying to install the WMP 10 series yesterday, and one time changed the file path in the registry to program files x86, that moved the 12 series there when I rechecked it.

    Also, check Default Programs.
Start > Default Programs > Set program access and computer defaults

Windows Media Player - Restore or Remove from Default Programs - Vista Forums

You want to make sure that the "Enable access to this program" box is checked.

Aha! There it is. It's in Program Files (x86). I have to set it up again, though. Thanks!
