Is there a lightweight FLAC player for Win7? Up through Win XP Pro I was using Winamp to play my FLAC files. But even then I was using an older version of Winamp because I did not like the "kitchen sink" growth approach that Winamp was having. When I got to Windows 7 x64 I took a look at the Windows 7 compatible version and saw that it was even worse in that regard.
What I'm looking for is a lightweight program that will just play my FLAC files. I don't want it to do other types, or video, or support different skins etc. I also don't want it to install unnecessary codecs. That frankly is why I'm not taking the WMP12 route with Sharky's codec bundle. I'm sure it works, but I already have the FLAC codec installed on my system for encodes/decodes. Why do I have to install a whole package of that and more when I've already got it sitting there? Isn't there a program that will just install itself and use what I've got to play FLACs? | My System Specs |

Seeing how almost every player nowadays can handle FLAC I just name a few I personally tried out:
You could try AIMP which has tons of skins available
Another little one with even more skins: XION
or for a minimal approach foobar 2000 (that is probably what you want

MediaMonkey is lightwieght, and handles lots of different Audio formats.
If you do not like the UI, its highly customizable as well.
Lots of skins, as well as the UI itself can be moved around and configured any way you prefer.
Overall its quite good and best of all, free. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Custom (Self Build) OS Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit CPU Intel Core i7 2700k Motherboard eVGA P67 SLI Memory 8GB Mushkin Redline Ridgebacks @1866 Graphics Card EVGA GTX570 SC Sound Card XiFi Titanium HD Monitor(s) Displays LG W2453V Screen Resolution 1920x1080 Keyboard Saitek Cyborg PSU Seasonic x750 Case Corsair 600T SE White Cooling eVGA Superclocked CPU Cooler Hard Drives Intel 320 80GB -- Intel X25-V 40GB --WD Black 1TB x2 -- WD Blue 640GB Antivirus Kaspersky Browser IE Other Info LG BD/DVD |

Sledge, I tried to install one of my earlier versions of Winamp but got a popup warning saying "There are known compatibility issue with this program". So I figured why install it if it was going to crash. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Custom OS Windows 7 Ultimate x64 SP1 CPU E8400 E0 stepping @ 4.05GHz Motherboard Abit IP35-E, BIOS v.18b1 Memory 2x2GB + 2x1GB Mushkin Graphics Card eVGA GTS 250SC Sound Card Onboard Monitor(s) Displays Sony FW900 Screen Resolution 1600x1024 Keyboard PS2 Mouse PS2 PSU Corsair 550W Case CM Scout Cooling Scythe Mugen2 Hard Drives WD Black 1TB SATA Internet Speed FiOS |

try running it in xp compatibility mode - see how it goes.
if you install a more modern winamp, do a custom install, and you can turn a lot of the bloat off - including modern skins, if that's not for you.
vlc will play flac files, but it aint pretty. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number mickey megabyte 1234 OS ultimate 64 sp1 CPU i5 2500K 3.3@4.2GHz Motherboard MSI P67A-GD53 Memory 8 gigs GSkill Ripjaws 1600 Graphics Card amd hd6950 Sound Card creative x-fi gamer Monitor(s) Displays samsung 24" Screen Resolution 1920x1080 Keyboard saitek eclipse ii Mouse logitech g3 PSU antec 550 Case antec three hundred Cooling i'm a cooling fan Hard Drives ocz vertex 2e 60 gig, samsung f3 1tb, buffalo 2tb ext Internet Speed about 4 Mbps Other Info i love win7 |

The Shark007 installer has a CUSTOM option, deselect everything, flac playback isnt an option, it is installed anyway. After installation, open the settings application and press the button to associate filetypes to the Windows players. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Selfbuilt OS Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit CPU i7 2600k Motherboard asus P8Z68-V LE Memory 16GB (4x4) corsair vengeance Graphics Card Intel HD3000 iGPU / AMD HD6870 1024MB Sound Card bitstreamed to an Onkyo 609 Monitor(s) Displays Asus VE278 27" LED / Bravia EX7 60" LED Screen Resolution native 1080p x2 Keyboard Dell Mouse logitech m505 PSU 650w Antec Case NZXT tempest evo Cooling air/stock Hard Drives 4x 2TB int. + 2x 2TB external and a SSD for the boot drive. I wouldn't bother with old winamps either...Nullsoft says, winamp 5 is Winamp 2.91 plus extras (but you could turn off those extras like it already was suggested)
If you don't want to use wmp, my money would be on foobar2000 (it's hard to get more minimalistic than that | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number HP m8000n OS Windows 7 Ultimate x86 CPU DualCore AMD Athlon 64 X2, 2600 MHz 5200+ Motherboard Asus M2N68-LA (Narra) Memory Samsung 2GB DDR2 Graphics Card Onboard NVIDIA GeForce 6150SE nForce 430 Sound Card Onboard nVIDIA nForce 6100-430 (MCP61P) Monitor(s) Displays Westinghouse 19" LED Screen Resolution 1280x1024 Keyboard Logitech Classic KB 200 Mouse Standard HP opticle USB mouse PSU Stock (HP) Case Stock (HP) Cooling Stock Hard Drives SATA II Seagate Barracuda 500GB

Since I'm on Windows 7 x64 and use WMP12 x64, do I have to install the x32 codecs and x64 components and in both cases deselect everything? | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Custom OS Windows 7 Ultimate x64 SP1 CPU E8400 E0 stepping @ 4.05GHz Motherboard Abit IP35-E, BIOS v.18b1 Memory 2x2GB + 2x1GB Mushkin Graphics Card eVGA GTS 250SC Sound Card Onboard Monitor(s) Displays Sony FW900 Screen Resolution 1600x1024 Keyboard PS2 Mouse PS2 PSU Corsair 550W Case CM Scout Cooling Scythe Mugen2 Hard Drives WD Black 1TB SATA Internet Speed FiOS Is there a lightweight FLAC player for Win7? problems?
