    WMP movie crash

I've got an issue with playing movie files (normally AVI) on WMP. The film will often freeze 2 or 3 times throughout the course of it playing. This involves WMP becoming unresponsive for about a minute, after which it returns to normal. Very occasionally I will also get an error message (see attached).

While trying to fix it .....
Try this VLC player ..."It'll play most formats.."
to isolate problems with codec or lack of mem ....
If it plays OK ...then some thing definitely wrong with WMP itself ..."makes sense ..?"

Which codecs do you have installed?

I suggest you install the Shark007's Codec Pack:

    Shark007.net - Windows 7 Codecs - WMP12 Codecs

Those are some really good codecs, and a lot of users here on the forums agree with this :)

Those Codecs will give you the ability to play almost everything you throw at the WMP.

Remember to uninstall every other codec pack you may have in your PC before installing Shark007's Codec Pack.

Well both spyware doctor and norton have not found anything on my system since the problem started. My GPU seems to run games fine aswell. I have noticed the problem normally occurs with torrent downloaded movie files.

My guess would be that the file is somhow corrupted. Convert it to e.g. .wmv with Format Factory. If Format Factory dies in the conversion too, then you definitly have a corrupted file.
