unwelcomed video icon

an icon has taken over all my video mp4 files in explorer. It's a blue musical note icon and it eliminates the ability to view the file as a thumbnail.
See attachment. Default programs for video is windows media player.
I,m wondering if Nero is the culprit.

Can anyone suggest a way to restore the thumbnail videos?

Hello Guybc,

Double check to make sure that you have thumbnail previews turned on.

If so, then see if downloading and merging the mp4 option in the tutorial below may help. It will restore all default associations and settings for the mp4 file extension.

Default File Type Associations - Restore

Hope this helps,
Shawn

Thanks for your help.
I now have about 1/10 of the files as thumbnails. All the files appear to have identical properties and all open with media player regardless of their icon status.

You're welcome.

How many video files do you have in the folder? I notice that where there a lot, that this can cause some of them to randomly not show thumbnail previews.

You might also see if resetting the thumbnail cache may help.

Thanks for your help, Brink.
I followed another thread on the same topic with an identical blue icon and reloaded my codecs( whatever they are) with K Lite 64.
That has completely fixed the problem, although I note that my Studio 10 video editing program had to be re-installed before it would work.
