The system cannot find the file specified."

I've no idea whether or not that error has anything to do with it.

Additional points --

1.I have thought about installing a Nvidia video adapter but can find no way to disable the onboard adapter either in BIOS or by a jumper on the MB which is an MSI K9VBM-V.

2.Just to check that I had not installed something that causes this crash, I reinstalled the RC and immediately tried to play a .wmv file. Same crash.

3.This problem is very repeatable. All I have to do is open any .wmv file and it runs for a fraction of a second and then crashes.

4.Media Player will play any music file as well as movies from a CD or recorded movies from TV.
I could have sworn I attached the minidump file. Will try again.

I just googled the k9vgm and the link shown for it at MSI and got a page cannot be displayed message. Makes me wonder!

Think I will run over to Best Buy and pick up a nvidia card and try it.

Let me take this chance to tell you how much I appreciate your help in this.

The error appears to come from your PCIe bus. This most likely includes your video card, so trying another one is probably the most important thing.

You've specified 2 different motherboards in your posts. Which one is it? I've tried to locate info on the MSI K9VBM-V and can't find anything.

This is essential so that we can figure out the BIOS settings to disable your onboard video, and to see what else connects to the PCIe bus (for troubleshooting).

Here's a brief summary of the BSOD:
Quote:
WHEA_UNCORRECTABLE_ERROR (124)
A fatal hardware error has occurred. Parameter 1 identifies the type of error
source that reported the error. Parameter 2 holds the address of the
WHEA_ERROR_RECORD structure that describes the error conditon.

Thanks again. Sorry for the multiple MB #'s. The correct one is K9VGM-V.

Will put the new GeForce 8400 GS in today and will report back.
