    Windows Media Player 12 & wmpshare.exe

Just about a half month ago, for opening it, or when pausing a video, wmpshare.exe pops in.

And it takes a ton of CPU, I mean, lagtastic, until I kill it. What is this and how can I rid of it ?

EDIT: Also, I did go in services.msc. I Disabled it. It still slugs my PC down.

Did you disable the "Windows Media Player Network Sharing Service" in services.msc?

I'm going nuts. The first method I try and Media Sharing has never been enabled.

I was hoping for the 2nd method, but I can't find any Down arrow in the Library. I can't find Media Sharing in WMP @ all.

I just wanted to watch my videos, and I can't even pause them without scurrying to the Processes tab and killing wmpshare.exe

OK, then this following solution is a last resort of sorts. Locate the file wmpshare.exe, then remove all security permissions on it. Then add a full deny for system, everyone, users and administrators. Take ownership of the file if you have to if it doesn't let you do this at first. I done this on the remote control feature (Windows Powershell) because it's a safe alternative to actually removing the item (not recommended.)

This way the file won't be able to launch and you can always restore the allow permissions for the file if you want to.

Wow that handled it. It's one of the most absurd features. And to force it upon you without asking ? I'm on ONE computer, I couldn't care for sharing, you can always upload.

    Cheers & thanks much !!
