    Overlapping stored Jpeg photo images

JPEG Photos downloaded from a compact flash card are starting to appear as as overlapping images, some are only appearing as half an image and others has irregular strips appearing on them.

The guy at the photostore said that I need toi reformat the compact flash card to get rid of residual memory that may be corrupting the images. This doesn't appear to be working.

    Has anyone had similar problems?

Well, the guy at the photo store didn't know what he was saying exactly... though CF cards can get fragmented if you fill them up then hand delete files and fill them again, it is a good idea to reformat the card IN the camera now and then for best performance. But it should never result in bad jpegs (unless there was a HUGE bug in the camera firmware).

But if it still does it after a camera format of the card, then its most likely that either the card has gone bad and needs to be replaced, or the camera has gone bad

Do you have another card to try in the camera?

Thanks for the reply - I have tried a new card and it occurred again. I will try re setting the factory defaults on the camera (it is old but my favourite and I can use it like a paintbrush to get the most awesome shading effects).

But just to complicate things I copied a lot of photos in a folder to a new folder and about 10% of the images in the new folder are showing the overlapping, half missing effects.

I think it must be something wrong with my operating system or the file transfer system etc but haven't got a clue where to start.

How do the pictures show if you display them on your system reading directly from the card - without downloading. If that is ok, we can eliminate a defective card and have to look at the download.

Also try to watch them with an alternate viewer. FastStone Image Viewer is excellent: FastStone Image Viewer - Powerful and Intuitive Photo Viewer, Editor and Batch Converter

Good point - when I open the file on the card on the windows browers It appears fine.

When i copy/move to the contents to the external hard drives this is whn it appears to have the problem.

As mentioned in the last post - it also seems to occurr when I make a copy of files stored previous to the problem starting.

I am downloading the fast stone viewer to see if this makes a difference.

How do you copy/move? I use this and never have any problems: Context Menu - Add Copy To Folder and Move To Folder

When transferring from a compact flash card I insert into the card reader , then box pops up with otions - I go to view files, then I normally highlight the JPEG files and hit ALT to bring up the tool bar with FILE, EDIT etc. Then I use the "move File" or "copy file".

I have also just run a diagnostic and maintainance fix on the computer. It appears that I can copy bulk files without the problem occurring now - but the files that already have the problem are any better.

The other thing is that the p[roblem started around the time I loaded Skype onto the system - coincience?

BTW - thanks for the help.
