Windows 7 - Folder Thumbnails Problem

Folder Thumbnails Problem

So I'm willing to bet this is more of a problem with ffdshow than it is with Windows 7, but here goes anyway. Whenever I'm viewing a folder containing video files, instead of thumbnails from the video files being extracted and displayed in the folder icon, it displays a generic media file icon. It's only until I go inside the actual folder that the thumbnails load. Problem is though, the folder icon gets cached, so when backing out of the folder, it still displays the old generic icons. I notice the problem disappears for whatever file types I set "Microsoft" as the preferred decoder for in Win7DSFilterTweaker. Thing is though, Microsoft decoders don't exist for a lot of file types.

Any thoughts? Suggestions?

Is ffdshow being used with a media player or as a stand alone codec. And what exactly about the icon that gets displayed is upsetting you?

That icon looks like a problem being caused by K-Lite, not ffdshow.

I don't have K-Lite. Don't use codec packs.

I guessed klite because they use the MPC-HC icons as displayed in your screenshot. So then the issue is caused by your installation of MPC-HC AND/OR the settings you have chosen within its options under 'Formats'.

Thanks for the reply, but I'm sure it has nothing to do with MPC, that's just the media file icon that's used as the default when a thumbnail can't be generated. Like I said, the problem disappears for whichever formats I set "Microsoft" as the default codec, so it's definitely codec related. The problem arose only once I updated ffdshow to the latest version, as the one I was using previously couldn't play certain h.264 video files.
